Liz Newbronner, Director, has a Masters degree in Health and Social Services Management and over ten years' experience in NHS senior management. Liz has held a number of NHS management positions in mental health, community and older people's services, eventually becoming General Manager of Community and Priority Services for a large NHS Trust. Before joining Acton Shapiro in 1999, she worked for five years as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of York and continues to work with colleagues from the University as a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Health Sciences and on a number of joint projects with the Social Policy Research Unit. Liz has a particular interest in the organisation and delivery of services and the ways in which service users, carers and staff can shape the services they use or work within. |  | Chris Acton, Director, is an experienced NHS business consultant with a postgraduate qualification in Health Economics. His career began in the voluntary sector and he was an associate partner at a large GP practice in North Yorkshire, before moving on to form Acton Shapiro in 1996. Chris is involved in developing the Department of Health's Primary and Social Care Planning and Design Guidance website and specialises in giving management support to GP practices and developing Strategic Service Development Plans for PCTs nationwide. He has extensive experience in project managing new premises for GPs and other healthcare organisations, including third-party developer and Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) schemes, and in preparing feasibility and option appraisals, strategic premises plans and procurement plans.

Martin Baxter, Consultant, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate certificate in education with 10 years' experience teaching in secondary schools. In 1998 he was awarded a Masters Degree in Information Processing from the University of York. Martin has extensive experience of quantative data analysis, using Excel, Access and SPSS, and specialises in analysing healthcare data and the use of national data sets. He is also responsible for designing and maintaining the company's Management information database and administering its computer network system. Martin is also Chair of Trustees for the Malton, Norton & District In-Touch Club, a local charity for the elderly visually impaired.
|  | June Rogers, Administrator, has thirty years’ experience of working as a Secretary, PA and Office Manager. Having started her career as Concerts Secretary at the University of York, running the concert series in the Music Department and providing a secretarial service for the academic staff, she then spent some time working at the Yorkshire & Humberside Tourist Board and in banking, before joining the staff of The National Trust in 1980 as the PA to the Director for the Yorkshire Region. She later also took on the role of Office Manager for Goddards, the Trust's Regional Office in York. June joined the Acton Shapiro team in December 2003. |

Rachel Borthwick, Senior Researcher, is a qualified nurse and midwife, with degrees in Architecture and Midwifery from London University. She has extensive experience working in clinical settings, first as a staff nurse in London and then as a midwife in London and Hull. She has also been employed in the community as a midwife. Most recently, Rachel was a research assistant in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at Hull University, where she conducted research into antenatal depression services and an evaluation of the health provision within a number of Sure Start Local Programmes. She joined Acton Shapiro in October 2005 and is also currently studying part-time for a Master of Research degree at Hull University.
|  | Richard Banyard, Senior Consultant, has a Masters Degree in Health Services Management from the University of Leeds. Richard is an experienced health service manager with over 30 years in the NHS, over 10 years of which has been at Board level, including Chief Executive and various director positions. Richard has extensive operational, managerial and commissioning experience at all levels in the NHS and overseas. He is also experienced in teaching, conference presentations, examining and writing, with over 20 publications in professional journals. Before joining Acton Shapiro, Richard was a LIFT Project Director in Hull, where he was responsible for establishing the LIFT programme, including developing the service plans and siting proposals for nine new schemes across the City. He is also a part-time lecturer at Hull College and Hull University and has headed up a part-time Foundation Degree programme in Health Services Management at Hull College for local NHS staff.

Ruth Chamberlain, Senior Researcher, has a Masters Degree in Applied Social Studies, a Masters Degree in Women’s Studies, a PGCE, a Diploma in Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker with the General Social Care Council. She has more than 15 years' experience in policy and planning in social services and the voluntary sector and has worked in local government as an equalities adviser. Ruth joined Acton Shapiro in May 2007 from her former post as Principal Officer for Physical and Sensory Impairment with North Yorkshire Adult and Community Services. She has a special interest in disability and carers work and a particular knowledge of diversity and equality issues, including the requirements of Equalities Impact Assessments.
|  |  David Deitz, Consultant, has a Masters degree in History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine from Cambridge and undergraduate degrees in both Chemistry and Philosophy from the University of Arkansas, USA. Before joining Acton Shapiro, he spent six years performing ophthalmology outcomes research and has been published in both peer-edited journals and textbooks. As an undergraduate, his chemistry research in organometallic synthesis targeted the creation of compounds with anti-cancer properties. His Masters dissertation was a philosophical work analysing the principles of justice utilised by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in its drug and technology appraisal process. Additionally, he has worked previously as a health care policy analyst, specialising in the topics of obesity prevention and public-private partnerships. |

 Joanne Bartlett, Assistant Consultant, holds a first class Honours degree in Management Studies with Design and Technology from the University of Leeds. She has experience of working within a Primary Care Trust setting, especially focusing on monitoring and reporting on activity within primary care contracts. Over the past few years Joanne has also been heavily involved in the implementation and reporting of the GP Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF). |  |  Chris Bartlett, Research Assistant, holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Reading. He has a diverse range of experience including having worked in the voluntary, banking and communications sectors. Chris has numeric, analytical, literary and research skills supplemented by extensive experience in project management and telephony. |
