Disability, Health and Mental Health

Disability, health and mental health are areas of special interest to us.  We have carried out many evaluations and reviews of services and consultations with service users, carers and staff in this field.  Examples of this work include:

  • a consultation with people with long-term health conditions, about enabling clinicians to learn from patients (The Long-Term Medical Conditions Alliance)
  • two national studies on carers of people with mental health problems/dementia, in partnership with SPRU at the University of York (The NHS (SDO) R&D programme)
  • a consultation with heart patients about local support groups (The British Heart Foundation)
  • a web-based/ postal survey of parents of children with disabilities (Contact-a-Family)
  • a review of ‘Supporting People’ arrangements for adults with learning disabilities, and of a Modern Apprenticeships scheme for care staff (The Joseph Rowntree Foundation)
  • a comprehensive needs assessment, involving consultation with mental health service users, carers and staff (Dudley Health Authority)
  • an evaluation of a personal development programme for mothers with postnatal depression (Sure Start Newington with Gipsyville)
  • a review of adult day services (Learning Disabilities Partnership Board, Scarborough/Ryedale)
