Practice Management Support
Developing the Role of Practice Management

We offer a six-day modular learning and development programme for staff with management and leadership roles in GP and dental practices.  The course is especially suitable for staff new to these roles and who are seeking to develop both themselves and their organisation in the light of current changes in primary care.  Recognised by the Institute of Healthcare Management, this unique programme is designed to run for one day per month over 6 months and for a maximum of 16 managers.  Highly participative in style, in addition to the more formal acquisition of core knowledge and skills, the programme offers an opportunity for personal development and to tackle ‘real-life’ work issues in a supportive environment through discussion with peers in Action Learning sets which run throughout the course.

The taught content of modules can be adapted to suit participants’ needs, since Acton Shapiro is able to draw on trainers with a wide range of relevant knowledge, skills and experience.  Current modules include:  personal effectiveness, managing the team, human resource management, safety & governance, business planning & project management, managing change, health needs assessment, user involvement, inter-agency working & partnerships and an introduction to conducting & using research.
