Our normal approach would be to address this process in three phases:
Phase 1
The initial part of the process would be to develop a Practice Profile for sharing with all candidates. This would include some general background information about the practice and its patient population, as well as reference to its specific needs and planned future developments.
Phase 2
Phase 2 would involve preparing a detailed job description and person specification, which would be given to potential candidates. These would include reference to 'essential' and 'desirable' skills and personality criteria. The documents would indicate specific areas of expertise and the contribution that the practice is looking for in the new appointee. Details of remuneration, any proposed Partnership aspects, working arrangements, terms and conditions etc. would be included.
Phase 3
The final phase would comprise support for the actual recruitment process itself. This would involve preparing any advertisment, helping to shortlist and offering professional support to the practice during the actual interview and selection process.
All the documents would be prepared by Acton Shapiro, working closely with a lead GP and any other members of the practice team felt to be appropriate.
We have also recently worked with a major practice in the Settle area to facilitate the process of selecting and recruiting a replacement GP Principal Partner.
