A number of PCTs have asked for support in looking at GP practice performance issues.  These have included assessing the quality of GP medical records, clinical governance and safety issues and matters concerning organisational development.  In most cases, this work is carried out before a GP is referred to NCAS (National Clinical Assessment Service) and the outcome has been GPs being much clearer about their strategic goals.  As a result, there have been substantial improvements in overall practice performance.
