Personal Budgets - new research commissioned by SCIE
SCIE has commissioned Acton Shapiro, in partnership with the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of York and the National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL), to undertake new research on personal budgets.  The main focus of the research is to generate new case studies investigating how older people and mental health service users have experienced the personal budget process.  Where possible, the experiences of personal budgets for black and minority ethnic communities and people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender will be sought.

The study is essentially a practice investigation designed to produce good practice examples and inform the development of learning resources for staff. It builds on the IBSEN (individual budgets) and In Control pilots and will complement other key national studies including the evaluation of the Personal Health Budgets pilot.

Findings from the study will be available in May 2010 and will be disseminated via the SCIE website and at a number of regional workshops.
